Electric cars see record sales

Sales of electric cars have increased by 25%, with the new Renault Zoe playing its part, picking up a number of awards after just five months on sale in the UK.
Electric cars see record sales

According to RAC News, government figures show that electric car purchases numbered 1,149 in the last quarter, which is the largest total since records started at the beginning of 2011.

The Renault Zoe has played a key part in the positive recent publicity for electric cars, receiving two prizes at a Houses of Parliament ceremony held in conjunction with The Green Organisation.  It was also named as the best electric car at the Scottish Car of the Year awards, and notched up further recognition at both the BusinessCar Techies Awards and the Fleet World Honours.

RAC spokesman Simon Williams said: “News that UK electric car sales have jumped by 25% in third quarter of this year to a record high is significant. The Government's electric grant scheme has not sparked take-up in electric vehicles as much as it had been hoped.

“Let's hope this trend continues and even accelerates in the coming months to the point where these vehicle [sic] become far more commonplace on the nation's roads.”
